European Projects: Student Exchange 2012 - 2013

IES Julio Caro Baroja BHI has been involved  in the European Projects these last days. Seventeen German students and two teachers have visited us. It's being a traditional exchange between  the communities of Garbsen and Getxo. Our students and the German students have been working on the  "National identity" of both countries. In March, our students will go to Garbsen (Germany) together with other European countries to finish the project and to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Project Comenius.
The German students in Getxo have been visiting the most outstanding and symbolic landmarks in Bizkaia, Bilbao and Getxo.

The exchange can be classed as "Excellent". Students' attitude, work, collaboration and commitment at any moment deserve a medal.
Let's give them all our congratulation.

When good work and effort are rewarded

We have to congratulate our students and their German partners for three reasons:

- First , for their good work in the project (National Identities): they have not only done a good job but also deepened on and taught  one another new interesting ideas.

- Second, for their sense of collaboration and friendship, helping one another at any moment, trying to make the Germans' staying more comfortable, interesting and happy.

- Third, for making these European Projects a real success, especially this year 2012 when we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Comenius projects.

But everybody knows that things don't go well by chance; so let's congratulate the English Department and all their teachers for their effort and collaboration on the project, the German Teachers for their professionalism and commitment

and especially our students' parents for
their support, effort and total commitment.
Thanks a lot.

Last Workshop, Casco Viejo and Diputación

On Friday, during their first class, the binational teams presented their
products  as a summary of all their discussions and ideas.

Later in the morning they visited Casco Viejo and ended up in Diputación where they had the chance to enjoy that beautiful small palace asking a lot of questions to the guide.

Little by little, all this week long they have been appreciating our way of life, visiting our villages and cities, enjoying friends and family life.
A memory they will never forget.

Second Workshop

Today at 08:15 a. m. the students have met in the Salón de Actos to prepare the second workshop. First, in their presentation groups, they have taken notes about what surprised and didn't surprise them about the others' presentations and formulated questions about any questions left.

Then, they have mixed in Spanish-German groups to present the results they have found.
They have been talking and clearing out any possible questions before writing the relevant topics discussed in the binational groups in the whiteboard.

Finally they have been producing posters and other materials to reflect their conclusions.

In the afternoon our German friends have visited Bilbao and ended up
their walk in the Guggenheim Museum.

A walk through Getxo

After the first workshop in the morning where  the students of both countries presented their tasks, they had a long walk  through our town.
Perhaps the pictures describe the discovery of our little town better than the words.

They are here to stay

Time has come to make things come true.

Yes, seventeen students from Garbsen (Germany) are here to stay with us for a week to carry out the first part of our European Projects.
After a long flight trip they landed in Bilbao Airport. They were taken to our school to meet their partners.

Today after the Principal's reception they introduced one another in pairs.
Later they made a short trip to visit Gernika,

 Mundaka,
  Bermeo and Butrón.

Once in Getxo, they felt excited to talk about their first experience in
The Basque Country.

Drama Workshop Second Year

Last year's Drama Workshop debutted at IES Julio Caro Baroja as a new subject, as part of  the Trilingualism Project.

School Year 2012-1013 is its second chance to be on.

Drama Workshop has helped our students to improve their learning of English in different ways: They feel more confident with their speaking, they prepare some projects which they have to defend and present, they perform for their families and friends, for their classmates and sometimes for other Secondary Schools.

The result has been really positive. The students feel great with the experience.

And here are the new fantastic cast  and crew for the  new times...

...ready for  exciting drama  experiences.
